The international exhibition “REAS 2023” is growing, the major annual event for the emergency, civil protection, first aid and fire prevention sectors. The twenty-second edition, which will take place from 6 to 8 October at the Montichiari Exhibition Center (Brescia), will in fact see an increase in the participation of organisations, companies and associations from all over the world: over 265 exhibitors will be present (+10% compared to to the 2022 edition), coming from Italy and 21 other countries (19 in 2022), including Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Croatia, Great Britain, Latvia, Lithuania, United States, China and South Korea. The salon will cover a total exhibition area of over 33 thousand square meters and will occupy the 8 pavilions of the exhibition centre. Over 50 conferences and collateral events are also scheduled (20 in 2022).

“All the activities and initiatives dedicated to the rescue and civil protection sector are very important, especially to deal with the many emergencies that unfortunately occur more and more often in our country“, declared Attilio Fontana, president of the Lombardy Region, on the occasion of the press conference today at Palazzo Pirelli in Milan. “An event like REAS is therefore welcome, which allows us to present all the innovative products in this sector at an international level and also to improve the training of volunteers. The REAS exhibition is therefore to be supported, both for the needs in the emergency sector of Lombardy , but also throughout Italy“.

“We are pleased to record these clearly growing numbers”, underlined Gianantonio Rosa, president of Centro Fiera Montichiari. “Emergency prevention and management activities are essential to the safety of our communities. REAS 2023 confirms itself as the reference fair for companies that develop technologies and services with the aim of improving intervention standards“.

At “REAS 2023” all the latest technological innovations in this sector will be exhibited, such as new products and equipment for first aid operators, special vehicles for emergency and firefighting, electronic systems and drones for interventions in the event of natural disasters and also aids for people with disabilities. At the same time, over the three days of the exhibition there will be an extensive program of conferences, seminars and workshops, which will offer visitors an important opportunity for training and professional development. Among the numerous events, the conference on “Mutual aid between municipalities in emergency” is organized by the National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI), the conference entitled “People at the centre: the socio-health aspects in emergencies” promoted by Croce Rossa Italiana, the conference on “The helicopter rescue resource in the Lombardy Emergency Emergency System” promoted by the Regional Emergency Emergency Agency (AREU) of the Lombardy Region and the AIB round table on the latest “Forest firefighting campaign in Italy”. New this year will be the “FireFit Championships Europe”, a European competition reserved for firefighters and volunteers in the firefighting sector.

Other “REAS 2023” conferences will concern the use of helicopters for search and rescue, the use of drones in fire-fighting missions, the presentation of the map of the 1,500 Italian airports and airfields available for emergency flights, rescue interventions in mountain, portable field lighting systems in critical scenarios, seismic risk in industrial plants and the health and psychological approach in case of emergencies or terrorist attacks. The new master’s degree on “Crisis & Disaster Management” from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan will also be presented. An exercise is also planned with the simulation of a rescue for a road accident organized by the AREU of the Lombardy Region. Finally, the awards for the “REAS Photo Contest” on the theme “Emergency management: the value of teamwork”, the “Giuseppe Zamberletti Trophy” on fire prevention and civil protection and the “Driver of the Year Trophy” for drivers of emergency vehicles.

“REAS” is organized by Centro Fiera Montichiari in partnership with Hannover Fairs International GmbH, organizer of “Interschutz”, the world’s leading specialized fair which takes place every four years in Hannover (Germany). Entry is free and open to all, subject to online registration on the event website. .

On Saturday 7 October, as part of REAS, Sipem SoS Lombardia – Sipem SoS Società Italiana di Psicologia dell’Emergenza promotes a free workshop entitled “Psychological protection and civil emergencies“.

Emergency psychology and social protection represent two fundamental pillars to guarantee the well-being and resilience of communities in times of difficulty and uncertainty. These two fields merge to create an integrated approach that aims to understand, prevent and address the challenges that people may face in situations of emergency, crisis or social change.
“From prevention to the promotion of civil ethics of intervention, from psychological support in emergency situations to the protection of human rights, up to the planning of a better future. These fundamental steps lead us towards more resilient and supportive communities.”

The workshop is free upon registration. At the end of the session, a certificate of participation will be issued.

On Saturday 7 October, as part of REAS 2023, CIVES is offering the free course (7 ECM credits) entitled “Specialist Volunteering: taking care of the fragile patient“.

The course is designed to acquire basic skills and updates relating to nursing in the Civil Protection sector. Activities in emergency areas will be analyzed with particular attention to subjects with long-term pathologies. The educational project also has the aim of improving collaboration and communication strategies between voluntary bodies and associations and citizens’ associations for the protection of chronic diseases

During the next edition of REAS, the third edition of the national conference dedicated to the use of drones in emergencies will take place. This year the meeting will concern the use of unmanned aircraft for the identification, monitoring and extinguishing of forest fires, which flare up throughout Italy especially in summer. The dozens of planes and helicopters coordinated by the Civil Protection Department, in the summer firefighting campaigns are increasingly joined by multirotor and fixed-wing drones, used by the Forest Carabinieri, the Fire Brigade and also by the regional Civil Protection organizations to control the territory , detect the flames early and perhaps catch any arsonists in the act.

On the occasion of the conference, two brand new “made in Italy” fixed-wing and solar-powered drones, capable of flying during the day for many hours in a row even over long distances, will be presented: the “FireHound Zero LTE”, a drone equipped with a sophisticated infrared sensor to identify fires and capable of transmitting the precise coordinates of even a small bonfire, and the “Fire Responder”, a vertical take-off and landing drone capable of carrying six kilograms of extinguishing material to be dropped directly on the flames. Both of these drones were developed by Vector Robotics company, in collaboration with NPC Spacemind. More information: www.vector-robotics.space.

At the conference, speeches are also expected from representatives of public bodies, the armed forces and state bodies involved in the fight against fires, also with the use of drones. The organization is managed by the Roman company Mediarkè, in collaboration with the two reference professional events of the drone sector in Italy, Rome Drone Conference and Sea Drone Tech Summit.

The conference “Civil Protection and Air Rescue” will present the characteristics and geographical distribution of the network of 1,500 public and private aeronautical infrastructures (airports, airfields/heli/hydrosurfaces and airfields) present in Italy: in practice, one aeronautical landing place for every five municipalities , thirteen for each province, an average territorial coverage of one landing place every 150 sq km.

During the conference, the unpublished “Air Rescue Network Aeronautical Chart” map will be distributed free of charge, representative of this national network, which Legislative Decree 120/2021 plans to enhance with petrol stations, hangars, workshops, modernization of take-off runways specifically for the contrast of forest fires and support for the national Civil Protection service.

This map is a unique publication, an exceptional and unprecedented knowledge tool for pilots, professionals, operators and public administrations which, in this geographical and regulatory context, will be called upon to carry out support interventions and preventive strategic planning actions.

“Air Rescue Network Aeronautical Chart” is created and published by Avioportolano, a leading company in Italy in the production of AIS (Aeronautical Information Service) certified cartography for air navigation, in joint venture with EIL Systems, an Italian company that produces patented light tower systems , made on design and with aeronautical construction technology. Aeronautical technology and experimentation applied to field and emergency portable lighting are the factors that led the Italian company EIL Systems to create the first inflatable light tower equipped with the latest generation integrated batteries, patented all over the world.
